Frequently asked questions about GroCook

Clear answers about how the comparator works, where the data comes from and what to consider before making a purchase decision.

Price comparison

How does GroCook compare prices?

We link each observed price to its product, presentation, store and available date. The comparator organises comparable information, but the final price and availability must be confirmed with the retailer.

What do €/kg, €/l and €/unit mean?

They are prices normalised per kilogram, litre or unit. They let you compare different pack sizes without assuming that the pack with the lowest total price is the cheapest.

How is the lowest-cost option identified?

GroCook compares available current prices and, when possible, their normalised unit cost. This is guidance based on observed data, not a guarantee of savings, accuracy or availability.

Data sources and updates

Where do prices and product data come from?

They may come from retailers, public sources, reviewed contributions and identified external providers. GroCook keeps the source and observation date when available to provide context.

How often are prices updated?

Frequency depends on the source and product. The observation date shows when a price was obtained; it may have changed in the store since then.

How can I report an incorrect price?

Email contacto@grocook.com with the product, store and information you observed. We will review the data without publishing personal information from the report.

Products and variants

What is the difference between a product, presentation and multipack?

The product represents the food or item; the presentation defines its size, quantity or packaging; and a multipack groups several units. Keeping them separate avoids comparing different quantities as if they were equal.

What is an EAN or GTIN?

It is a trade identifier that helps distinguish presentations. If no reliable identifier is known, a product may remain listed with other verified data rather than an invented code.

How are brands, categories and allergens handled?

They are managed as structured, reviewable data. An allergen or characteristic missing from GroCook does not prove it is absent from the product: always check the manufacturer's label.

Supermarkets and stores

What is the difference between a chain and a physical store?

The chain identifies the retail brand; the store is a specific location. Prices and availability may vary between stores in the same chain.

Why might a store not appear?

We only publish locations with sufficient identity and geographic data. Coverage grows gradually and an absent listing does not mean a chain does not operate in that area.

Open Food Facts and external sources

Which Open Food Facts data may be reused?

We may use open product data, images or classifications while preserving source and licence information. This data can be incomplete and is reviewed before becoming editorial data.

How are Nutri-Score, Eco-Score and NOVA shown?

They are shown only when a recognised value is available. An unknown or missing value is never turned into a real classification.

Affiliation, accounts and privacy

Does GroCook use affiliate links or advertising?

Some links may generate a commission and some pages may display advertising. Using an affiliate link does not increase the displayed price or alter editorial and comparison criteria.

Which features require an account and how is my data used?

Comparing prices and viewing public content do not require an account. Saving lists, favourites, alerts or preferences may require one; details are available in the Privacy and Cookies policies.
